Celebrating 50 Years - Bethania Lutheran School

This year, Bethania Lutheran School proudly celebrates 50 years of educating and inspiring students in a nurturing Christian environment. The school has grown from humble beginnings to become a pillar of the community, shaping the lives of generations of students.

As we honour this historic milestone, we are reaching out to the heart of our story, to our past students, staff and anyone who has been a part of our wonderful community. Whether you walked our grounds five years ago or fifty, you are a valued part of our legacy. We are calling on all former students and staff to reconnect, reminisce, and relive your time at Bethania Lutheran School as part of our 50th Anniversary Celebration.

We are collecting:
Photos from your time at BLS
Memorabilia (e.g., uniforms, badges, old documents, artwork)
Personal stories or reflections on your time here

Submissions will be featured in our 50th celebrations, across our website and social media, and in special publications for this occasion. We encourage all our past students to discover each other's stories across our shared history. To see more please explore our photo gallery and stories from the archives. If you have any questions or want to share something, please send your submissions through to us here.

Early History

Bethania Lutheran School debuted in January 1976 with one teacher and eighteen students in Years 1 through 3, although there had been a German school in the region since the early 1900s. The school was officially established in the church hall with the first teacher and principal installed, Mrs Betty Schultz. Early on in the school's history, things were challenging.

By 1977, the School was still operating in the church hall with 45 students and two teachers. The first building erected on the school property, teacher accommodation, was opened in October 1977. In May 1978 the first school building was dedicated and opened and the second school building opened in February 1979. By this time the pupils numbered 85. The school blossomed over the years and now has over 12 buildings and 320 students in a leafy and tranquil setting. May we be ever mindful of the School motto "Christus Constans Est" - (Christ is changeless), Christ the same yesterday, today and forever.

Bethania Lutheran School has been serving the local community since it was established in 1976. The school was established by the Bethania Lutheran Congregation to provide a quality Christian education to the children of its members and the local community. Bethania Lutheran School is one of 83 Lutheran Schools across Australia.

The School is funded from Commonwealth and State Government grants, school fees and fundraising. The School is administered by a School Council drawn from members of the Bethania Lutheran Congregation, P&F community, and other Lutheran congregations.
